✨ Botanical Portrait of Sweet Orange

✨ The sweet orange tree is a fruit-bearing tree of the Rutaceae family, native to Southeast Asia. It can reach between 5 and 10 meters in height and is distinguished by its dense, evergreen foliage of dark green, oval, glossy leaves. Its white flowers — known as orange blossoms — are particularly fragrant and precede the appearance of its fruit: the oranges. Round and juicy, these fruits are covered in a rind rich in aromatic essences. The tree thrives in sunny, temperate climates and is today widely cultivated across Mediterranean regions, notably in Spain, Morocco, and Italy.

✨ Extraction Process

✨ Sweet Orange essential oil is obtained by cold pressing the pericarp (zest) of the fresh, ripe fruit. Unlike distillation, this mechanical process uses neither heat nor solvents, preserving the integrity of the aromatic compounds naturally present in the rind. The zest is first separated from the fruit, then crushed and pressed. The essential oil is then separated from the juice by centrifugation. This cold-extraction method yields a pure, fresh essential oil that is true to the original fragrance of the orange.

✨ As for its hydrosol — Orange Blossom Water — as the name suggests, it is the flowers that are harvested and then steam-distilled, making it a distinct and complementary product to the essential oil.
